I want to introduce myself:
My name is Lorraine Lévesque and my passion is fashion.
And more precisely, it is about the creative process ‘’the design’’ behind the clothing and accessories.
I consider them as pieces of art,’’ living artworks ‘’ that infuses beauty into our daily lives.
I consider fashion to be part of the expression of oneself, of our individuality.
In my teenage years in the 70s with the desire to distinguish myself and to express my creativity, i started my journey into fashion.
i started to wear second hand beautiful 50s dresses that weren’t so easily available back then. That is also when i started to dabble in sewing and designing in order to make the kind of clothes i liked, that fitted right and that was more accessible.
You could say that my ‘’retro bohemian‘’ style started back then and still influences my look today.
My first experience with designing for others, happened while i was traveling in India in the early 80s.
The lavish colors and fabrics were so inspiring! I ended up making my first small collection that i brought back home to Quebec (Canada).
After that, i was hooked, i was going to study fashion design! and i did!
I started school in septembre 84 and went on a 5 year journey to finally graduate in 89 at Lasalle College in Montreal.
Reigniting my love for vintage
In the early 90s, i started to look into secondhand baby clothes searching for good quality clothing on a budget for my newborn. Wow! the gems i would find for a few bucks!
After initially looking for my son, i started finding amazing pieces for me, my sisters, my mother so that, started me into collecting.
The beginnings of my business
I started selling children clothing at ward sales that i would organize and advertise with flyers that I would put up on telephone posts in my neighborhood. In the same manner, i later started to advertise my ’’home sales’’. I would go with my son and my boxes of children’s clothing to families houses and have them choose what they wanted.
But it is finally in 1997, when my son started school, that i opened my store BOHEME on St Viateur Street in Montreal, thinking to myself that i would give it a try.
So, without any experience, i just dove in.
23 years later
The store is still in its original location. The collection is now huge and even better curated.
And my passion for vintage and for reviving these treasured pieces and dressing people with the best fit in mind is so gratifying!
One of the best feeling is when i can find the perfect outfit that will complement your unique body making you look fantastic and feel confident and amazing, i just love it!
I take pride when the client is happy!
